Javea - The Old Town

Javea Old TownFrequent attacks from pirates forced Javea's inhabitants to settle 2 Km. From the coast in a walled town. Although the walls have now disappeared the area enclosed by the walls now forms Javea's historic center, consisting of whitewashed houses with black iron grilles and lintels made of golden porous clay.

Narrow streets and tall buildings provide welcome shelter from the midday sun, allowing residents to take a welcome "siesta" between 1pm and 4pm.

Javea Old TownIn the old town you will find the Ayuntamiento (town hall), a food market, where you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and meat as well as local wines. The tourist information center can provide you with lots of details about Javea and its surrounding areas and the host of historical buildings that give you an insight into the more traditional side of Spain.

All these buildings are within easy walking distance of the town square where you can sit in the sun sampling the local bars and "tapas".
